Thief Tries To Rob Man At ATM, Intended Victim Leaves Crook Calling 911

When a thief tried to rob a man at an ATM, he learned the hard way that he had picked the wrong target. In fact, it wasn’t long before the crook himself was calling 911.

Trey Khiry Turner, a 24-year-old Virginia man, likely thought he had found an easy target when he spotted an unnamed man at an ATM. He would learn the hard way, however, just how mistaken he was when he attempted to rob the man. Instead of making a getaway with the victim’s cash, Turner found the tables being turned on him.

As the victim was holding his cash in his hand at the Bank of America ATM in the 10300 block of Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania at 9 p.m. on a Friday night, Turner approached him in a “threatening” manner, The Blaze reported. According to Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Maj. Troy Skebo, Turner then turned violent, striking the victim with his fists several times.

Unbeknownst to Turner, his intended victim was a concealed carry permit holder, who was armed, and after being punched by the suspect several times, he decided he had had enough. So, the concealed carrier pulled his gun and fired several shots at Turner, the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star reported. Although Turner was not hit, the heist was foiled, but things were far from over.

Turner made a getaway and had seemingly escaped unscathed, but things were about to get worse for the crook, who took a bad situation and made it so much worse for himself. After running across Courthouse Road in the direction of Mill Garden South subdivision, Turner alerted authorities and reported being shot at while at the ATM.

That’s right, for reasons we can’t comprehend, the thief decided it was a wise idea to call 911 and report that he was shot at, even though he was trying to rob the man when the shooting occurred. Unfortunately for him, deputies were already responding to the reported robbery attempt at the ATM when the suspect called 911, and it didn’t take long for authorities to realize that the 911 caller matched the description of the robbery suspect.

After being identified as the robbery suspect, Trey Khiry Turner was taken into custody. He was charged with attempted robbery and placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. As for his intended victim, he only suffered minor injuries during the incident. Of course, things might have ended differently had he not been armed and able to fend off the suspect.

Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t Trey Khiry Turner’s first run-in with the law. Court records indicate he was previously convicted of attempted robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with a 2016 incident in Spotsylvania. He was ordered to serve three years in prison for that crime. Sadly, it doesn’t appear he learned his lesson.

Unfortunately, Turner seems to be like so many other criminals. Instead of learning from their mistakes, they continue to make the same disastrous decisions, putting others’ lives and well-being in danger. Thankfully, his intended victim was prepared to fight back. In doing so, he inadvertently succeeded in getting a violent criminal off the streets. I don’t know about you, but I love a story with a happy ending.
