When a Texas girl told her parents she saw someone watching her through her window, they didn’t believe her at first. After hearing his daughter’s screams late one Sunday night, however, the dad caught a Hispanic man touching himself outside the girl’s room — and quickly decided to make sure it never happened again.
According to Harris County sheriff’s deputies, an unnamed Texas husband and wife were home with their 10-year-old daughter late one Sunday night when they were alerted to a problem outside after hearing their child scream. The girl’s parents came running, only to discover a Hispanic man was outside and allegedly touching himself inappropriately while peeking in the child’s window at approximately 10 pm.
The husband and wife — who don’t want to be identified but are both licensed handgun carriers, according to officials — grabbed their guns and decided to confront the man, ABC 13 reported. Armed with handguns, both parents went outside and attempted to detain the man — who they claim was intoxicated — until authorities arrived, but things didn’t go as planned.
“She looks over at the window and this guy is at her window,” the girl’s mother, who does not want to be identified, told KPRC 2. “I can’t say that he tried to take my daughter’s innocence away — he took my daughter’s innocence away.”
The armed parents demanded that the alleged peeping Tom lie down in the yard and wait for the police to arrive, according to the Texas dad, but rather than complying, the suspect promised not to do it again and began walking away, crossing the street to a Valero gas station. Not wanting the alleged predator to get away, the armed couple followed, and that’s when things went from bad to worse.
“I’m literally saying you’re not going anywhere,” the mother said as she described how the suspected peeper was trying to get away.
According to deputies, the wife held the man at gunpoint outside the gas station while her husband went inside and asked the clerk to call 911. With the Texas dad distracted, the suspect decided to make a move on the mother. After charging the woman, he reportedly bear-hugged her and wrestled her gun out of her hands.
“He is wrestling with me, with my gun, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to let you get my gun, you are not going to kill me or shoot me,'” the mother recalled. “My husband just said he heard a ‘ca, ca,’ but by that time the guy had already grabbed me, got my gun and pulled it on myself.”
After grabbing the wife’s gun, the suspect then turned it on the woman, pointing it at her, the Texas dad recalled, according to Indy 100. Fearful that the man was going to start shooting and could kill him and his wife, the Texas dad fired his weapon, shooting the suspect three times, according to deputies. When speaking with ABC 13, however, the father said he believed he shot the man four times — twice in the chest, once in the stomach, and once in the side.
“We didn’t want this guy to get shot. We were waiting for police to detain him because I’m pretty sure if he did this to my children, he’s doing it to a lot of other children out here,” the mom explained. “We are praying for the suspect and we are also praying for his family.”
After the shooting, Harris County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at the home in the 15400 block of W. Little York Road around 2:30 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival, they found a Hispanic male shot outside the nearby gas station, MSN reported. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the shooting.
After the incident, the Texas dad admitted that his daughter had been left shaken up by the incident but was otherwise doing okay — and she has her fast-acting father to thank for that. Both parents were prepared to defend their child and keep her safe. We shudder to think just how far this “peeping Tom” might have taken his perversions if he wasn’t stopped. After all, if he’s willing to peek in a 10-year-old girl’s window and touch himself inappropriately while looking at her, there’s no telling what else he’s capable of.
Thankfully, we won’t have to find out. This dad identified a threat and properly neutralized it when the man took the mother’s gun and used it to threaten the family. Thanks to the Second Amendment, this father was afforded the opportunity to defend himself and his loved ones with the force necessary to defeat the danger that was lurking outside his 10-year-old daughter’s window. I don’t know about you, but I love a story with a happy ending.
