After being raped in what the court called a “horrifying” sexual assault, an 11-year-old girl escaped only by jumping out of a window. However, once the rapist was sentenced, many were left outraged over his bizarre punishment.
An 11-year-old girl found herself fighting for her life in her own home when 31-year-old Haji Kaloga grabbed her throat and said, “Who’s the man?” before dragging her into a room. The child attempted to fight off her offender, who had forced his way into her house through a window. She bit and kicked her attacker to no avail as he tightened his grip on her neck to stop her from struggling.
Kaloga immigrated to the UK from the Gambia. The large man used his physical advantage to overpower the little girl, pulling her by the hair and slamming her head into the ground before taking advantage of her in an hours-long rape in Bradford.
After he had finished with her, Kaloga warned the girl that he would come back and murder her if she revealed his identity. In a split-second opportunity, the clever child ran for the nearest window and jumped out in an effort to get help. Once police arrived, she explained in great detail what Kaloga had done, leading to his arrest.
After linking Kaloga to the attack through DNA testing recovered by a rape kit, he was charged and interviewed. Despite denying all involvement, he ultimately pleaded guilty to rape of a child under 13 and assault by penetration, leaving him with a reduced sentence, The Telegraph and Argus reports. Disturbingly, it’s the court’s bargain that has many outraged over the gut-wrenching ordeal.
In what has been described by Judge Andrew Haslam as a “quite horrifying sexual assault” that he promised warranted a lengthy sentence, Kaloga received just 13 years in prison. As light as his punishment is, locals were even more appalled to discover that not only is Kaloga expected to get an early release from prison but it isn’t expected that he will be deported after serving his sentence, Breitbart reports.
“One is struck by her strength of character after her terrible ordeal. She is a truly remarkable young girl,” Haslam said. “This was a quite horrifying sexual assault.”
As many Britons know, the Home Office has an extremely poor record on fulfilling deportation orders, which aren’t always given to immigrant offenders. Additionally, HO has trouble even keeping track of migrants felons once they are released, leaving many to believe that Kaloga will be back on the streets in no time.
Despite her trauma, the child wished to personally address Kaloga in a victim statement she read out in court. The offender covered his face with his hands as he was forced to listen to the child’s words.
“I want you to know that what you have done to me, or ever said to me, is something I won’t ever forget until the day I die. I want you to know this because you sexually abused me. Even though I won’t ever forget what you did, I won’t let it change my future, or change who or what I want to be. Sooner or later, one day, you will hear that I have become something that you can never imagine. I hope that I never ever meet a man like you again.”
Although he immigrated from The Gambia, Kaloga made headlines as a “Bradford man” after committing the heinous assault. The label was criticized by many as an attempt by the media to fit a specific narrative.
After the trial, Kaloga expressed remorse for his actions and fully accepted his punishment. He has been described by the media as “a hard-working man with no previous convictions,” although it is unclear how long he had been in the UK.
Regardless of his identity, perpetrators of such heinous crimes should be given no credit by the media or the courts. They must be judged by their actions and sentenced accordingly. Unfortunately, it seems as though politics and government incompetence have infiltrated our justice system.
