After a black teen allegedly committed suicide, a woman went to participate in an anti-police protest. However, she had a swift change of heart when her 11-month-old baby suddenly stopped breathing and lost consciousness.
As the media effectively paint law enforcement officers in the worst light possible, many citizens have begun to believe that our men and women in blue are inherently racist and brutal. Unsurprisingly, this has driven some police officers to leave the force, as morale plummets and violence towards them escalates.
Incredibly, despite little incentive to stay, there are still officers who shoulder the immense burden of defending a community that openly despises them. Sometimes, these acts of selfless dedication are captured for the public to see a different side of law enforcement that the media don’t want to be exposed.
At a park in Palmdale, California, protesters gathered to demonstrate against the local police after Malcolm Harsh, a 38-year-old black man, was found hanging from a tree in an apparent suicide. Weeks later, Robert Fuller, a 24-year-old black man, would be found in a similar position just 50 miles away, sparking rumors of racist lynchings.
Locals rallied to accuse the police department of covering up the murder of black men. However, one of the participants soon found herself in desperate need of the officers she was demonstrating against when her child’s life was on the line.
KNBC reports that Palmdale Police officers rushed to the rescue when an 11-month-old baby choked. The department said that the mother and a female friend were protesting against the police in a park nearby when the child suddenly became ill, stopped breathing, and finally passed out.
Deputy Cameron Kinsey comes to the rescue.
The women spotted police officers, who were monitoring the protest from the other side of the street. As such, the women ran up to Deputy Cameron Kinsey as the limp child dangled in his mother’s arms. The mother handed the baby over to the deputy, who immediately began sweeping the child’s mouth and throat in a training technique designed to dislodge any obstruction.

After several life-saving blows to his back, the child began breathing on his own again. Deputy Kinsey then hands the baby back to his mother, who hugs her child in relief. Soon after, the woman takes her baby to the hospital, where it was discovered that he had swallowed a coin that became stuck in his airway. The deputy’s sweeping maneuver had successfully turned the coin sideways, allowing air to pass through.
Other officers arrived for backup seconds later but weren’t needed thanks to the deputy’s quick thinking. When asked about the protest, in which the two women were participating, Deputy Kinsey declined to comment and instead redirected the focus back to the important issue.
“None of that other stuff matters, just the baby,” Kinsey responded.
When it came to helping an innocent child, Deputy Kinsey didn’t care what the women thought about him or his profession. His only prerogative was to do everything in his power to save the baby’s life, which he thankfully did.
When it came down to life and death, every difference between the citizens and the officer disappeared. There was no race, no political bias, no prejudice. There was only the opportunity to help someone in need. For the vast majority of law enforcement officers, that’s exactly what they strive to do on a daily basis.
