A lawyer from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, was found dead and his body was recovered after being dumped in the Etawah district. According to the investigation done by police in the matter, the mastermind behind the murder was none other than the mother-in-law of the lawyer.
The accused woman has been nabbed, while her partner in the crime has managed to escape.
Case:
45-year-old Kapil Panwar, who was a lawyer by profession, was married to Mamta Pawar, who was a police inspector. The woman had married her husband against the wishes of her parents. The couple has an 8-year-old daughter.
Mamta died last year due to heart attack, after which, the lawyer husband was going to transfer his wife’s property under his name. However, Kapil’s in-laws were not in favour of this decision.
On October 27, Kapil alias Yash’s body was found dumped in a canal at Bhartana of Etawah district. The body was later identified after a couple of days on October 29. As per investigating officers, the deceased had a property dispute with his in-laws, which became the motive behind his murder.
Police Investigation
The police has disclosed that the lawyer’s mother-in-law was the mastermind in the murder of her son-in-law. She also paid Rs 10 lakh to get him eliminated. The accused woman has been identified as Shimla Devi who is now in police custody and has confessed to her crime.

Mother-in-Law Wanted Daughter’s Property
The accused woman told the cops that she wanted a share of her deceased daughter’s property. Elaborating on the assets left by her daughter, she said that her daughter owned two plots, a flat and a shop.
According to the accused, she had given lot of money to her daughter to build these assets. It was thus that she insisted on a share in the properties. However, the son-in-law wanted to transfer all of it under his name, alleged the accused woman.
Property Dealer Absconding
Jeetu Yadav, who is a property dealer and accomplice in the crime is currently absconding. Jeetu used to
visit the lawyer’s house, and there he got acquainted with the latter’s mother-in-law.
The woman then approached Yadav to murder her son-in-law. Yadav agreed to partner with Shimla Devi and hired one Rahul and Anwar to complete the job, who are now in police custody.
Murder
The accused called Panwar to his plot on October 26 and made him consume lot of alcohol. Later, they also made him have some food which had sleeping pills mixed in it. When Kapil turned unconscious, they took him into their car, strangled him with a seat belt and threw the body in Bhartana of Etawah.
Police arrested all the accused, however, Jeetu is on the run. The cops are still looking for him.

The lawyer’s body was identified by his two elder brothers, who are labourers. They informed police that they are originally from Hapur. Both his brother’s stated that Kapil was good at studies, hence, he went to Delhi to prepare for IAS.
Later he met Mamta, who belonged to the Jatt (caste) community, while Kapil belonged to a backward caste, and thus her family was not ready for the couple’s marriage. Their brother’s deceased wife was selected for
the post of Sub Inspector and the deceased brother also commenced with his studies. The entire dispute and controversy started last year after Mamta died due to heart attack.
