Boy Shows Girl His Homemade Sign… 13 Girls Ask Him To The Dance

When a teenage boy greeted a high school girl with a homemade sign, it turned into chaos. After a lot of mocking, laughter, and ridicule ensued, 13 girls were so bothered by what had taken place that they decided to meet the boy in the hall days later — and it was all caught on video.

Dakota Nelton, a sophomore in Gray, Louisiana, goes to the H.L. Bourgeois Braves local high school. Ironically, it was at the school that Dakota learned a tough lesson about being brave. Armed with a homemade sign, he did what many boys before him had done. He took a leap of faith and very publicly asked his close friend to an upcoming school dance. Unfortunately, the proposal didn’t end well at all for Dakota.

Not only was the teen rejected, but he was also laughed at, mocked, and ridiculed by fellow students. Dakota was obviously devastated. “It was actually a pretty tough moment standing in a small circle with that one shake of the head and you just got to find your way out of that circle,” Dakota said, according to WGNO. Things only got worse as dozens of kids laughed at him, even stepping on his poster that he made himself. “That’s what made me walk away. I didn’t want to be a part of it,” Dakota recalled.

But, things were far from over for Dakota Nelton. The torment didn’t end in the hallway that day. In fact, making matters worse, a video capturing the embarrassing ordeal even went viral on Facebook. He was literally laughed at by people from around the world for his proposal gone wrong after the girl said no. And, his newfound internet fame wasn’t going away anytime soon either — not after what a group of 13 girls decided to do in response.

You see, not everyone found the situation to be funny. Seeing their peer mercilessly mocked and degraded, all over asking a girl to a dance, left some of Dakota’s classmates deeply bothered. That’s when they decided to do something about it, meeting Dakota in the hallway days later with a surprise of their own. And, that too was caught on video.

The following Monday, things once again took a turn for Dakota Nelton when something extraordinary happened, thanks to a group of girls at his school. “We’re going to make sure he dances — like we’re going to make sure he is on the dance floor dancing,” one of the brave young ladies explained. Indeed, Dakota Nelton went from rejected to accepted in a very big way, as KSN reported.

After Dakota’s embarrassing ordeal went viral, the girls got together and hatched a plan. “Let’s get a group of girls together and ask him [to the dance] to show him that he’s loved and worthy and deserves to be going … with somebody,” student Alyssa Buckley said, describing the moment she and a group of other girls decided to take matters into their own hands to brighten Dakota’s day.

So, thirteen girls, including cheerleaders, held up posters and proposed to Dakota to ask him to go to the school dance. The boy couldn’t have been happier. “I felt like one of the popular kids in school, which I’m really not,” Dakota admitted. But, he now knows that he does have friends who display bravery, care, and happiness — all the things he says his school is supposed to stand for.

These girls saw bullying take place in the worst way. Yes, the girl Dakota proposed to had every right to say no. However, those witnessing that heartbreaking moment lacked compassion when they chose to laugh at and mock Dakota. Then, to upload the incident to social media was another slap in the face. Dakota’s feelings were completely disregarded as others decided to be entertained at his expense, and that’s wrong. Luckily, not everyone is so cruel, as this group of girls proved. Hopefully, their peers take a lesson from them.
