4 Armed Men Bust Door In Home Invasion, Suddenly Change Their Minds

When four armed intruders busted down a door during a home invasion, they were quickly given a very good reason to change their minds about entering the residence uninvited — and it was all caught on video.

Austin Orwig, a 24-year-old Bowling Green, Kentucky homeowner, was asleep at his residence in Country Living Estates when he heard his front door being busted open as he fell victim to a home invasion, according to Bowling Green Daily News. It was just before midnight on a Wednesday when a group of men forced their way into Orwig’s house.

The home intruders were about to have a quick change of heart, however, as they were sent running for their lives from the residence. Home surveillance video not only captured the moment the front door was kicked in during the break-in, but it also caught what caused the four black men, armed with handguns, to quickly change their minds about robbing this particular house.

The four home intruders learned real fast that they weren’t the only armed occupants of the home. The homeowner also had a gun, and he didn’t hesitate to use it when one of the invaders, wearing a red hoodie and leading the way in front of the rest of the group, rounded the corner and came face to face with him.

In the 36-second clip from the home surveillance video, which has been widely shared on social media, muzzle flash from Austin Orwig’s gun can clearly be seen. A barrage of bullets is heard being fired at the home intruders as the man in the red hoodie entered the hallway just to the right of the front entrance and approached the bedroom doorway of the room where Orwig was waiting, Fox News reported.

Finding themselves on the receiving end of gunfire was enough to cause the bad guys to turn tail and run, right out the door they had just kicked in, as screams can be heard coming from another room inside the home and a voice can be heard yelling. After the suspects fled the scene on foot, Warren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the mobile home park at 5690 Louisville Road, having received a report of an intruder in the residence and shots fired.

Sadly, according to WLKY, Austin Orwig wasn’t the only one who managed to get shots fired off. In the exchange of gunfire between the good guy with a gun and those intending to do harm, Orwig suffered a gunshot wound to his right hand. He was taken to a local hospital before being flown to Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was later released and expected to be okay, News Channel 5 Nashville reported.

“There was an exchange of gunfire,” Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower said. “During the exchange of gunfire, the victim was struck in the hand,” Hightower added. “It’s a non-life threatening injury. He was taken to a local hospital and then transported to a hospital in Louisville for further treatment to his hand.”

Although it wasn’t clear whether any of the intruders were hit by gunfire, what investigators did know is that the foursome could face attempted murder and first-degree burglary charges. And, armed with video of the home invasion, Sheriff Hightower told WDRB he was hopeful officials would find the intruders.

“It kind of plays into … the mindset of those individuals … when they forcibly made entry into somebody’s home, came in there armed and attempting to locate somebody and exchanging gunfire with them and shooting somebody,” Hightower said. “It’s invaluable to have that type of video footage.”

What proved even more valuable than the video, however, was the homeowner’s gun. Once again, an armed homeowner made home invaders change their minds about who they’d be victimizing, and that change of heart came fast — as fast as a bullet shot in their direction. Although Austin Orwig sustained a gunshot wound, it was not a life-threatening one. Had he not had a firearm of his own, this could have been a very different story.
