Dr Pranav Pandya and his wife Shail Bala Pandya, who were accused of rape, intimidation and harassment by a teenager living in Shantikunj, Haridwar, have been given a clean chit by the police. Dr Pandya is the head of All World Gayatri Family (AWGF) – popularly known as Gayatri Parivar.
According to the investigating officers, they were unable to find a single shred of concrete evidence against the accused doctor or his wife. On the other hand, the police came across three major facts against the alleged victim, after which the duo have been cleared from the charges.
Case:
The accusations were filed by the victim in May 2020, alleging rape by Dr Pranav Pandya during her stay at Shantikunj in the holy city of Haridwar in 2010. The girl who hails from Chhattisgarh, was then working as a kitchen attendant at the ashram. The woman, who is now an adult, filed rape charges at Vivek Vihar police station in Delhi after a decade. She also implicated Dr Pandya’s wife as an accomplice in the crime.
After the complaint was filed, the investigation was handed over to Haridwar police. Officers Meena Arya and Yogesh Dev were appointed to investigate the matter.
According to the complainant, she was raped by the doctor in 2010 during her stay at Shantikunj. She was a minor at that time. She alleged that both the husband and wife had threatened her, if she disclosed details of rape to anyone. In 2013, she left Shantikunj and filed a case of rape (2010) in May 2020.
Dr Pandya had refuted all allegations and then quoted,
The lodging of the complaint by the woman after a decade of the alleged incident itself speaks of the false narrative and clandestine way the woman has plotted. She is just trying to tarnish my image.
Police Investigation
According to the team, the police came across a voice recording while investigating the case. In the recording, the woman was denying any sexual activity that she claimed had happened. This recording was around five to six months old. Based on this evidence, the police asked the complainant to give her voice sample.
However, the woman did not abide by the officer’s instructions and decided not to turn up for the voice sample. Thereafter, the cops also sent her a notice demanding her to be present for her voice test. This time again, the woman chose not to mark her presence, instead asked the cops to first verify Dr Pandya’s voice sample.
In the second contrasting evidence, the woman had returned to Shantikunj on multiple occasions after leaving the same in 2013. She also participated in Shantikunj’s Sadhana Camps in 2015 and 2016. This made the cops suspicious and questioned what made her come back after she went through such a horrific incident like rape on the same camp.
Lastly, statements of thirty-eight other women, who used to live with the victim were also recorded, however,
all of them denied being aware of any such incident, as the woman had never mentioned to them about the same.
With these facts on record, the Haridwar police gave a clean chit to both the doctor and his wife and closed the case after making a final report.
