Man Held Captive By Wife’s Family For Six Days; Returns Home & Ends Life

In Gobind Nagar colony of Patiala, Punjab, a man died of suicide after being continuously harassed by his in-laws.

The man has been identified as Jatinder Singh, who was forcibly held in the house for six long days by some of his in-laws in Ablowal, Patiala. As soon as Singh’s parents got to know about the same, they approached SSP of Patiala.

However, unfortunately, even during those six days when the man was held captive, the police allegedly did not take any action. The maternal uncle-in-law had threatened the deceased after which he decided to let him go.

Jatinder returned home and strangled himself to death from the roof of his house. The parents of the deceased man informed police how their daughter-in-law’s maternal uncle would often threaten them of kill their son. After keeping him kidnapped at their place, the man was later allowed to leave. However, Jatinder came back home, he decided to end his life.

Case:

Singh was married since two years to the woman whose family had held him hostage. The couple would often fight due to some reasons that haven’t been disclosed yet.

Jatinder’s mother, Geeta Singh and father, Lakhvir Singh demanded that strict action should be taken against the people who forced their son to take this extreme step. ASI of Nabha Kotwali police, Manmohan Singh mentioned that based on the complaint filed by the parents, a case under sections 306 and 506 has been registered against the wife of the deceased and her maternal uncle.

In March this year, in yet another story, a 29-year-old man from Kanpur had visited his future-in-laws residence to meet them. He was invited by the girl’s family as he wanted to marry her, however, to his surprise, he was held hostage, beaten up badly, and later handed over to the police.
