Ex Navy Man Installs CCTV In Wife’s Bedroom | Woman Alleges Domestic Violence & Gets Court Order Of Rs 40,000 Per Month

A retired Navy officer from Gujarat allegedly installed a CCTV inside his bedroom since he was suspicious of his wife’s activities. However, the wife moved court against the installation of cameras that invaded her privacy.

Case:

The woman was living in Mumbai with their two children due to their sports training. At the end of March, she returned to her husband’s home in Vadodara, Gujarat, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

On May 20, the retired Navy officer installed CCTV in the bedroom and in other parts of the house. The man’s wife and his daughter allegedly started feeling uncomfortable due to the cameras and asked the man to remove them, but he did not do so.

Allegations By Wife

The man allegedly abused the woman and broke her mobile phone when she returned. The woman then approached the police, however, as per her the officials refused to file a complaint.

The accused allegedly took his wife’s Aadhaar card, passport and other documents. The woman turned to the police again but the cops did not file her complaint.

The woman also alleged that she continued to be subjected to assault by her husband from April to June. The woman further accused her husband of switching off the camera before assaulting her to ensure that there was no evidence against him. She also said that her husband would thrash the woman after consuming alcohol.

Court Order

The woman eventually approached court through her lawyers for help. The court asked the man to refrain from disturbing his children and wife.

After the court heard this case, it directed the man to pay Rs 40,000 as maintenance to the woman and children. He was instructed to remove the camera. The decision was given by the additional senior civil judge and additional chief judicial magistrate PA Patel last week.

Our Take:

  • While the court order is always supreme, the evidences placed on record to prove women’s allegations have not been mentioned in any media report
  • Was the decision then made going by what the woman alleged?
  • According to her there was no video evidence of the man beating and thrashing her, so eventually the word of the woman prevails
  • When a husband installs CCTV in his own bedroom, surely there has to be some strong reason for the same
  • However, we also do understand that privacy is also a right that every individual must enjoy
  • We are not sure how the allegations of domestic violence have been addressed by ordering maintenance per month
  • We leave this to the opinion of our readers
