Welcome Gender Equality 2020! A farce which was earlier restricted to adults, is now becoming a reality with our minor boys as well.
After passports only to girl students by Haryana government and smartphones to girl students by Punjab government, Assam government has now decided to give away scooties to girl students in the state who have secured first division in their Class 12 Board exams.
Around 22,000 scooties will be distributed to students who have passed 12th exam under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of the state on Tuesday said that the distribution is done under the ‘Pragyan Bharti’ scheme.
The government has given provisions to girl students to apply for electric scooty, if they want one. The budget per scooty is fixed at Rs 50, 000 to Rs 55, 000. Sarma quoted:
Many students might not be able to charge the scooty regularly and its speed is also limited to 30 to 40 kms per hour. So we will now be providing the regular petrol scooties. However, if any female student wishes to receive an electric scooty over an automated petrol vehicle, they may do so.

The government will be launching a new website as well, sebaonline.org, whereby, the girls may choose to mention their choice of variant. However, if anybody fails to do so, she will be awarded with the automatic petrol scooty, minister added.
The distribution of the vehicles will be completed by October 15, 2020. The beneficiaries will not be able to sell their vehicles before three years.

Reservation
The state government has also decided to reserve 25 percent seats in government colleges for state board students. Furthermore, the government has decided to increase the seating capacity of government colleges by 25 percent. The seats will be reserved for the students of the state board.
Assam Class 12 result was announced on June 25, 2020. The total number of candidates who appeared this year was 1,68,367, the passing percentage was 78.28%. This year’s topper Pubali Deka, Shraddha Bogohain has topped with 481/500 or 96.2%.
Every state government is in a race to project themselves as pioneers of perceived ‘Equality’. However, most are overlooking the treatment meted out to our young boys who feel totally left out and are treated as second class citizens.
